Install Xperia Ray, Neo, Neo V, Arc, Arc S CM10 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

Sony Xperia Ray, Neo, Neo V, Arc and Arc S can update to Android 4.1.2 jelly bean using CyanogenMod 10 custom ROM. CM is a community based android ROM development team. Still Sony cooperation doesn’t officially mention they are planing Android 4.1.2 official jelly bean updates. So this is a big opportunity for Xperia Ray, Neo, Neo V, Arc and Arc S device user.

This ROM doesn’t include Google apps. Because Google doesn’t allow to add their apps to pre-rooted firmware. Therefore you can’t see new Google now and other apps. However you can flash those Google apps after CM10 installation by using Gapps zip file. Before follow this installation, you need to unlock your boot loader and flash a recovery.

CyanogenMod ROM’s are highly optimized for better performance on your Xperia phone. This is not an official CM team release, it build by the Free Xperia Team. This Xperia Ray, Neo, Neo V, Arc, Arc S CM10 uses Google’s AOSP source. Therefor it gives you pure Android experience.

This post contains Xperia Ray CM10, Neo CM10, Neo V CM10, Arc CM10 as well as Arc S CM10. So carefully select your device ROM. If you installed wrong ROM, it will soft brick your phone. But all the devices have a same Gapps zip file with same installation instructions.

How To Install Android 4.1.2 CM10 Jelly Bean ROM Sony Xperia Ray, Neo, Neo V, Arc, Arc S.

 

  • Extract your downloaded ROM, “boot.img” file into the desktop (If you have separate one don’t follow this step).
  • Copy the downloaded ROM and Gapps into your phone SD card.
  • Extract downloaded fastboot files into your desktop. Copy extracted “boot.img” file into this folder.
  • Reboot into recovery mode. First we need to backup your current ROM. In the recovery main menu go to “backup and restore>backup”. Nandroid backup guide here.
  • After it completed go back to the main menu.
  • Wipe phone data. To do that go to “Wipe data/factory reset>Yes — Delete all user data”
  • Wipe cache partitions by navigating “Wipe cache partition> Yes– Wipe cache”.
  • Delete the dalvik-cache. (Advanced>Wipe dalvik-cache>Yes– Delete)
  • Wipe “/system” by navigating  “mound and storage>format /system>Yes–delete” (This is an optional step, sometime you may receive boot-loop) .
  • Now install the CM10 ROM, to do that navigate to “Install zip from sd card>choose zip from sd card”. Select the CyanogenMod 10 zip file in your SD card.
  • Select “Yes– Install xxxx xx.zip” and wait for a few seconds to complete the installation.
  • After it completed now you’re in the “Install update from zip” menu. Again select “choose zip from the sd card” and select the Google apps zip file. Select “Yes — Install xxxx xx.zip”.
  • Wait for a few seconds to complete the installation.
  • Go back to the main menu by using your phone back keys.
  • Now power off the phone, if your recovery not available option to shutdown, pull out the battery twice.
  • Press and hold the “Volume up” key and sometime connect your phone to the computer via USB cable.
  • Open the fastboot folder in your computer. Press and hold the shift key on your keyboard and same time right click inside the folder.
  • In the window context menu select “Open command prompt here”.
  • Type following command line in the CMD window.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
  • Wait for a few seconds to complete the installation.
  • To reboot the phone type following command.
fastboot reboot
  • Now your phone reboot with the Android 4.1 .2 Jelly bean based CyanogenMod 10ROM. You can now disconnect your phone from the PC.

Developer of this ROM releases new version each week. Go to the “Settings>About phone” and check for new version. You can download the ROM directly to your phone as well as you can download to PC using above download links. When you’re updating you don’t need to wipe data, but you have to install Gapps zip file and kernel via fastboot.
