Official Android 4.0.4 ICS Update Rollout For Sony Xperia Sola, Xperia U and Xperia Go

Sony mobile just starts rollout official android 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich (ICS) for the Xperia Go, Xperia U and Xperia Solo 2012 series handsets. They just start releasing this update. Still they’re not mentioned which device receives ICS first. 

Most of the time they will takes few months to complete the update. Therefore you will receive it after one or two months. 
New update availability depends on your deceive model, region and the carrier. Network locked (carrier-branded) device will receive the update over the network unlocked devices.

This new android 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich update includes lots of new features. According to the Sony mobile official blog, these are the major changes.
  • Latest android 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich.
  • New Sony new Walkman player, album and movies apps.
  • Extended standby mode.
  • Enhance lock screen.
  • Re-sizable home screen widgets.
  • Display total data consumption.
  • Task manager (recent apps). 
  • Enhance camera app.

In-addition to the above features, the Xperia Sola device user receives special feature called “gloves mode“. This feature enables the touchscreen while you are wearing a glove. 



How to check for new update.

We can check for new updates mainly in two different ways, they are OTA and via PC.  

Check update using over the air (OTA).
Before use over the air (OTA) update, method its better use WiFi connection. Because of you have to download more than 150 MB files. This method will not wipe your data. If you have a rooted device, this method will not remove the root
  • On your mobile go to “Menu>Settings>About Phone>System Update”. 
  • Tap on the “Check Now” button.
  • If it displays new version, tap on the “Install”.
  • Now it’s download the android 4.0.4 updates. When it completed your phone will reboot and start the installation.

Check update via PC companion or Update service application.

  • First install PC companion using your phone or download Sony update service application.
  • Connect your phone to the PC via USB cable.
  • If the drivers installation start wait  until it’s completed. 
  • Now PC companion application displays your device.
  • If there’s a new version available it will automatically notify you. You can manually check for update by click on the “Your phone is up to date” link”.
  • If there’s ICS, click “Install”.

Check update via web page.
  • Connect your phone to the PC via USB cable (Windows or Mac). 
  • Go to the “http://www.sonymobile.com/update“.
  • Select your phone model number in the right side “Select phone” drop down menu.
  • Now you will redirect to your device info web page.
  • It will display “latest available” update information. 
  • Now go to your phone’s “Settings> About phone“, under the “Build number / version”  you can see your device’s current software version.
  • If there’s a new update click on the “Check for updates” button.
  • If there’s new updates, before install them, backup your device with Sony PC companion (Only internal memory contents).
