Install Sony Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Live With Walkman, Active CM 9.1

Android 4.0.4 ICS based CyanogenMod 9.1 (CM9.1) custom ROM now available Sony Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Live With Walkman and Xperia Active phone. This is an Android Open Source Project firmware. It has the same user interface that we can see on the Google Nexus phone and tablets.  There is no any custom skin. Although it has several customization options.

This ROM based on the Google’s AOSP. Some of the applications are not in the Android Open Source Project. Therefore this Xperi Mini, Mini Pro, Live with walkman, Active CM9.1 ROM not available Google apps such as Gmail, play store, calender etc. Without these cools apps, it’s useless. Therefore you have to use Gapps zip file in this tutorial. It includes all the Google’s applications.

Before starting this CM9.1 tutorial you need to unlock the bootloader. But root and install CWM based recovery on your phone are not necessary. Because of this CM9.1 has its own kernel (boot.img), it includes CWM based recovery. However if you have to root, you can perform apps data backup using 3rd party apps, such as Titanium backup. This Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini pro, Active and LWW Android 4.0.4 CM9.1 ROM installation need to wipe user data.

As I mentioned earlier, CyanogenMod is a AOSP based after market firmware. If you download it from the CM server, this version not released by the CM team. It developed by the free Xperia project team. Before beginning the installation make sure that you have a latest backup. If you don’t have, you can use this tutorial backup guide.

Select the latest CM9 or CM9.1 ROM zip file.

 

How To install Sony Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Live With Walkman, Active Android 4.0.4 ICS CM9.1 ROM.

 

This installation has mainly two steps. They have installed CM9.1 kernel and install CM9.1 ROM zip file. These devices doesn’t have touch enable clockworkmod recovery.  Therefore you have to use volume keys for navigation and home button for selection.  Go to back menu press your phone back key.

Install CM9.1 kernel.

  • Extract the downloaded fastboot file.
  • Extract the downloaded ROM zip file contain “boot.img” file and save it with the fastboot files. Like following screenshot. Fastboot
  • Transfer ROM, Gapps zip files to the SD card.
  • Power off the phone and wait for a few seconds.
  • Press and hold the “Volume Up” key and at the same time connect the phone to the PC.
  • Now your Xperia phone LED turn to blue. If the fastboot driver installation started, wait until it’s finished.
  • Open the fastboot folder.
  • Press and release the “Shift” key and at the same time right click inside the folder.
  • Next context menu select “Open command Window here”.
  • Then type following command line to verify your computer detected your phone.

  • If the command window shows some numbers with the faster boot device message, you can go to the next step. If not disconnect the phone from the PC and reconnect with fastboot mode.
  • Next type following command line and press enter key.

  • Now  we have installed the kernel. If your command window shows following screenshot type message, you can go to the next step.

Install Android 4.0.4 CM9.1 ROM zip on Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Live With Walkman, Active.

 

  • Before follow this guide, you have to follow above kernel install step.
  • Power ON the phone and when you can see “Free Xperia Project” logo and top LED turn blue, press volume down key few times for enables recovery mode.
  • In the CWM main menu go to “Wipe data/factory reset>Yes – -delete all user data”
  • Next we need to delete the cache partition to do that navigate to “Wipe cache partitions>Yes — wipe cache”
  • Delete the dalvik-cache to that, go to “Advanced>wipe dalvik-cache>Yes wipe dalvik cache”.
  • Now we start installing new CM9.1 Android 4.0.4 ROM, go to the “Install zip from sdcard>choose zip from sdcard” and select the downloaded ROM zip file.
  • Wait for a few seconds to complete the installation.
  • When the installation has completed, again select “Choose zip from sdcard” and select the downloaded gapps zip file.
  • Wait till the installation complete. After it’s finished, go back using your phone back keys.
  • Now reboot your phone by selecting “reboot system now”.
  • Wait for a few seconds to complete the installation.
